Book Review: The Untethered Soul

I have a few books 'on the go' (as often happens!) and had the joy of finishing The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself by Michael. A. Singer this week. It is one of those books that has been mentioned / appeared via different sources for about twelve months and I finally purchased it when out Christmas shopping for a spiritual book for my niece. Highly recommended for sure!

It begins similar to one of the books I will publish in the future, and definitely picks you up, to know that we all struggle with so many areas of life. The big challenge is to learn to love the journey and thrive through difficulties, changes and key periods of growth. Don't give up!

The content is a discussion on living life as a spiritual path, the thought processes that support your journey and allow us to live in the NOW, rather than waiting for 'blah, blah, blah' to be happy. All too common are the thought processes 'I will relax when...' or 'I will be happy when' which is crazy... we must stop waiting to be happy and be grateful for all we have so that miracles can show up.

In his forward Deepak Chopra sums up the content perfectly: "In the book The Untethered Soul, Michael Singer takes you step-by-step through the process of Gyana, the yoga of the intellect, to the Source. Moreover, he does it with elegant simplicity. Read this book carefully, and you will get more than a glimpse of eternity."

The easiest way to describe this book is to reference the authors own words: 'Our major struggles end up being with our own inner fears, insecurities, and destructive behaviour patterns, and not with outside forces.' from Chapter 7, Transcending the Tendency to Close. He covers many of the doubts, fears and self-depreciating learned processes that we experience daily. The trick is to retrain our brains, change our bad habits and flourish rather than allowing our ego to control our world. You are in charge of your own destiny, no matter what society or those around you say.

The book talks about the need for all of us to remove fear and trust our intuition, instincts and discover our true happiness. We do not have to hate each day, dread our jobs, fear events, people, situations and issues such as finances. Believe everything happens for a reason, that when something goes 'wrong' it is guiding us on a better path and we are all allowed to be happy NOW.

"The prerequisite to true freedom is to decide that you do not want to suffer anymore. You must decide that you want to enjoy your life and that there is no reason for stress, inner pain, or fear. Every day we bear a burden that we should not be bearing' Chapter 10 Stealing Freedom For Your Soul.

We all have a choice and often the hardest one can be the realisation that we can choose to be happy, it takes work, throwing out fear, anxiety and worry but it is a joyous place to be! We are trained to believe fear is the way by society, by the constant bad news and implied stress. The good news certainly gets 'lost' but lets change this. The more of us that are awakening, the greater the spread of happiness is every day. Good luck on your journey and if you do get to read this book, let me know your thought.

Have a great weekend
